Deglet Date Palms thrive in full sun and are highly heat-tolerant, able to withstand temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. While they are somewhat drought-tolerant, they are not as resilient to dry conditions as species like Washingtonia or other Phoenix varieties.
Once established, they can endure extended periods without water. Additionally, Deglet Date Palms are fire-resistant and can survive cold snaps as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Though they are incredibly adaptable and can handle various conditions, excessive rainfall can be detrimental to the palm.
Bearing Fruit
Date palms have both male and female trees, with only the females producing fruit. A mature Deglet Noor palm can yield 200-300 pounds of fruit annually, depending on the climate and cultivation methods. Heat is essential for pollination and for the fruit to ripen properly. Male date palms are often preferred for landscaping, as they do not produce the annual crop of dates, which can sometimes attract pests once the fruit matures.
